Friends Book Sales

Holiday Book Sale

The Friends are hosting a holiday sale on Saturday, December 1 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Library. The sale features new children’s books, holiday cards, and other gift items. The sale offers a way to purchase holiday gifts while supporting the Library.

Other items available at the Lewes Library Holiday Sale include a variety of new children’s books (including local books such as The Mermaid in Rehoboth Bay), holiday ornaments and key chains with the City of Lewes seal, bejeweled bookmarks made by a local artist, tote bags, Lewes ball caps, BeachORIGINALS dining cards, holiday greeting cards, and two beautiful handmade quilts by local artists. A featured item is the limited-edition cotton throw produced by the Friends. A small number of the commemorative throws remain, and once they are gone, they will not be reproduced.

Admission to the Lewes Library Holiday Sale is free. Proceeds benefit The Friends and are used for book and media purchases, library programming, special projects, and other library needs.

Annual Book Sale

The Friends will hold their Annual Book Sale Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 9 am to 3 pm at the Library. More than 25,000 books will be available, at prices starting at just $1. Credit cards will be accepted for purchases of $10 or more. Breakfast and snacks will be available for purchase at the Biblio Bistro in the lobby. A Friends Member Only Preview Sale will be Friday, September 6, 2019 from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. Friends memberships may be purchased at the door.

Pricing for the sale is extremely competitive. Most hardcover books will be priced at $2 and pocket-sized paperbacks at $1. A special area will be devoted to high-value books such as antiquarian, art and photography, autographed books, and rare items. Pricing for the high-value books averages 30-50% lower than internet prices (Amazon, Bookfinder, etc.).

Proceeds of the book sale benefit the Friends, a separate 501c(3) affiliate of contributing members who support the Lewes Public Library. Proceeds are used for book and media purchases, library programming, special projects, and other Library needs.

Book Donation Policy

The Friends of the Lewes Public Library accepts gently used books, DVDs, and CDs to benefit the Library. Please see our acceptance guidelines below. Some of these donations are incorporated into the Library’s collection, while others are sold in the Friends’ book sale or in the Friends’ shop, Just Between Friends. Proceeds from the sales help pay for 100% of the books added to the Library’s collection, as well as many of the free programs offered.

Book donations are accepted at the Just Between Friends Shop from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am – 1:30 pm. When the Shop is closed, please check with the Library Circulation Desk for instructions.
