Roots and Shoots

You may be watching the news, dealing with school cancellations and so many other chaotic, scary things right now. We just wanted you to know we’re here for you, and that you’re not alone. During this time, it is so important to think about all the things we have to be hopeful about. Here are a few:

We are taking time to reflect on what is most important – our family, our friends, our communities, and our health.

Many of us (who are able) are taking time to stay home, to slow down, and to take care of our bodies and minds.

We are being challenged to be kind in the face of hardship. So many of us are checking in on our neighbors, making sure those who have compromised immune systems have enough supplies if they cannot go outside, and sharing vital information to protect one another.

While this is a difficult time, it also offers us a unique chance to build community online and in real life by doing things that help restore ourselves and each other.

Things You Can Do Right Now



  • Check on Neighbors, Friends, Family, and Yourself: Many people are feeling isolated and scared, make sure they’re OK! Others may have issues with work and/or income – find ways to be supportive, and if you’re in need don’t be afraid to ask for help.

  • Make Sure You are Sharing Supplies: Panic has left many stores emptied of essential supplies. Make sure those who may need are given any extras you can provide.

  • Slow Down (If you are able) – Take Care of Your Body and Mind: Fear can lower our immune response and take a toll on our bodies and minds. Take the time to take care of yourself! Check out these Roots & Shoots Compassionate Trait activities.
