Loopin’ for the Library Virtual Ride 2020 | Go the (Social) Distance

Get ready to go the (social) distance!
Loopin’ for the Library is going virtual this year
with a self-paced bike ride to support the library!

We have a raffle winner: Congratulations to Patti Stewart!

Why your participation is so important

As an independent library, we must raise nearly half of our operating budget every year – your taxes only cover 50% through the State and County! Your participation in Loopin’ makes possible the many free classes, programs, and services you, your family, and your neighbors enjoy. Proceeds from the ride also help us operate the new larger library building (think heating, cooling, lighting, water, cleaning, and maintenance).

The Library has been closed to physical traffic but is still here for the community during this time of special precautions, providing:

Look around our website for more detailed information.

How does Virtual Loopin’ work?

Between June 1 – 30, 2020 ride a total of 20 miles. You can ride 20 miles all at once or break it down into smaller rides that total 20 miles. You can ride indoors on a stationary bike, or you can ride outdoors. If you ride outside, please wear a helmet and follow recommended social distancing and health guidelines. If you ride on any of the bike trails in the area, please abide by Trail Courtesy Guidelines. You don’t need to report to us when you complete your 20 miles. We trust you!

Exercise is beneficial for your physical AND mental well-being. Loopin’ is an opportunity to work out for yourself and for a good cause!

Ride registration is open now through June 23, 2020. Fees are as follows:

  • Adults (18+) are $25
  • Teens (13 – 17) are $10 for the first teen in the household and $5 for each additional teen in the household
  • Kids (12 and under) ride for free

Register now!

Will there still be swag?

Yes! However, instead of a t-shirt, this year all paid registrants receive a 2-ply, 100% cotton, washable and breathable face mask with the Loopin’ logo on it. You also will receive a Lewes Public Library water bottle and one free entry into the raffle for an electric bicycle.

Kids 12 and under who are registered receive a packet of spoke beads for their bicycle and a Lewes Public Library water bottle.

You will be notified when your swag is available for pick up at the Lewes Public Library. If you need us to mail the items to you, please email us.

Want to do more than 20 miles?

Looking to challenge yourself? Awesome – we want to reward you for doing so! For every additional 20 miles you ride over the initial 20, you will get another entry into the raffle. To qualify, you must send proof of your first 20 miles ridden and proof of each additional 20 miles. Proof must be dated and can be a download from a fitness app or photo of your fitness tracker, or go low-tech and send us a picture of your handwritten log. Proof should be emailed to lewes.library@gmail.com by 11:30 PM on June 30, 2020.

NOTE: the maximum number of extra miles you can ride for this challenge is 100 miles, for no more than five (5) extra entries into the raffle.

Lewes Cycle Sports has generously donated a Storm Cloud (gray) Electra Townie Go! 7D electric bike valued at $1500 for us to raffle. Every paid registration gets one entry into the raffle. For every additional 20 miles you ride, you get another free entry into the raffle (see above).

Delaware law prohibits us from selling raffle tickets online, but if you would like to purchase extra ticket(s), please email us how many you would like, and we will contact you about payment. Tickets are 1 for $10, 3 for $25, and 7 for $50. Tickets also are available for purchase (with cash or check payable to Lewes Public Library) at Lewes Cycle Sports and Lewes Gourmet/PUZZLES beginning Friday, May 22. Tickets are on sale through June 30 with the drawing on July 1, 2020.
