Friends Seeks Applicants for Board

The Friends of the Lewes Public Library is seeking volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors. Applications will be accepted from September 1, 2024, through October 16, 2024.

Did you know the Lewes Public Library must raise nearly 50% of its operating budget? The Friends of the Lewes Public Library provide 100% of the funds used by the library to purchase new books for the collection and pay for many of the free programs offered to the public. Are you interested in serving on a nonprofit board as a fulfilling leadership opportunity that provides the opportunity to learn, grow, and impact your community? Are you ready to make a difference and have fun while doing it?

The Friends Board of Directors comprises 9 volunteers who each serve three-year terms. Each director can serve additional terms. The Friends are seeking three additional board members. We are looking to fill these positions in the fall of 2024.

The Board of Directors meets monthly for two hours, typically on the third Wednesday, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the library. Current board responsibilities are divided into various roles. Ideal candidates are energetic and proactive individuals interested in helping to fulfill the Friends mission in the following areas: fundraising; marketing (advertising); communications (public print, broadcast media, social media); facilities management (Shop activities as well as book donations and storage facility logistics); and community outreach. Board members are required to be or become members in good standing of the Friends.

The board is actively responsible for operating the Just Between Friends Shop, a micro business in the library, and conducting and managing periodic book sales throughout the year to provide 100% of the funds for lending material acquisition and support of free library programs.

Those interested in joining this dynamic board and contributing to the ongoing success of the Friends of the Lewes Public Library operations should send letters of interest and resume to Candace Vessella, President, Friends of Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Avenue, Lewes, Delaware 19958, by October 16, 2024 (FLPL19958@gmail.com), giving your personal and professional history, what drives your desire to serve the community, as well as, information about skills you feel you can bring to the Friends.
