Spoken Word Society | Fall-Winter 2026 Performances



The Lewes Public Library Spoken Word Society is proud to present the following performances this fall and winter.
All events are free and held at the Lewes Public Library (111 Adams Avenue, Lewes) unless indicated otherwise.
Registration is required and each individual attending must register. Please do not list two people on one registration.


The library once again welcomes Delaware Shakespeare for their Community Tour production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again]. This uproarious comedy written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, Jess Winfield  takes audiences through all 36 of Shakespeare’s plays in under 100 minutes. The event will include a 15-minute intermission.

Was Shakespeare successful at writing about love? Should the relationships we find in his work be used to model our own? Do his tenets hold up by today’s standards?

Former Artistic Director Jimi Kinstle and Education Director Joan Weber from Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, read and perform scenes from Shakespeare’s most famous couples and discuss how Shakespeare viewed love and relationships. Come see them portray the comedy, cruelty, romance, and desire that makes up some of Shakespeare’s most memorable duo’s and explore how Shakespeare viewed love. Includes an after performance “talk back” with the actors.

Never done improvisation before? Think again! We improvise every day. But how can you best utilize your skills of observation to contribute to the conversation? Join this improv workshop to learn more from instructor Joan Weber. This 2-hour workshop teaches how to employ the improvisational rule of “Yes, And…” into not only the setting of theater, but of life – including the workplace and the home space. Learn the basic skills of improvisation or hone your intermediate skills.

This favorite fall event features Delaware Shakespeare artists performing selections of scenes, prose, and poetry from Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, and their Gothic contemporaries, plus musical selections interspersed. As always, the evening closes with a dramatic reading of Poe’s The Raven. It is sure to fright and delight all who join!

Led by the Wilmington Ballet Academy of the Dance alumnus and Executive Artistic Director Benjamin Sterling Cannon, this highly engaging evening celebrates dance through a rich, multicultural lens. Audiences will gain fascinating insight into the history of the art, the daily lifestyle and training of artists, and performance excerpts from an eclectic repertoire. It offers a rare, captivating bridge between foundational classical traditions and dynamic modern artistic expressions.

Join us for an evening of storytelling by the Spoken Word Society’s Reader’s Theatre Troupe. Tales and poems written by Nathan Hawthorne, Sara Teasdale, Hans Christian Andersen, O. Henry, Robert Frost, and many more will provide an evening of smiles, laughter, and a few tears to ward off the winter’s blast.

In a one man tour de force, Former Artistic Director of the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival Jimi Kinstle portrays Charles Dickens as he performs the story of A Christmas Carol, embodying eighteen characters along the way. This classic tale of redemption will set the tone for your Holiday season! The performance is one hour long and family friendly.
