Teen Advisory Board

The Lewes Public Library aims to better serve teen patrons through guidance provided by the Teen Advisory Board.

What is the Teen Advisory Board (TAB)?

TAB is a group of teens who participate in and influence the functioning of the library, focusing on teen programs and the Young Adult library collection. TAB provides a forum to have opinions and suggestions for the library heard. Members of TAB have the opportunity to gain volunteer hours and to apply for leadership positions within the Board.

  • Suggest and brainstorm new teen activities for the library.
  • Provide input on which Young Adult books and materials are added to the library collection.
  • Regularly attend monthly meetings.
  • Assist with at least 3 teen programs per year.
  • Additional projects and tasks as determined by the Board.

Students in grades 6-12 who:

  • Attend the Cape Henlopen School District -or-
  • Are homeschooled and live in the Lewes area -or-
  • Attend school elsewhere and use Lewes as their home library.

  • Serve a term of at least one academic year (September-May).
  • Be respectful of the opinions of others.
  • Represent the library with integrity and courtesy.

  • Monthly board meetings (1 hour per month).
  • Additional time as needed for planning, activities, and volunteer service.

  • Board members directly improve and enhance the library’s teen program.
  • Members will develop planning, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership opportunities within the board are available.
  • Participation qualifies for community service hours.
  • Involvement may be included on college and/or job applications.
  • Reference letters for college and/or job applications will be provided.

Board Meeting Information and Minutes

TAB meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Delaware Room.
Meetings are open to the public (teens). You do not need to be a member to come to meetings but you do need to be a member to vote.
